Making the Dream Come True: Project Toolkits and Resources

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'"

Each year, Americans across the country answer that question by coming together on the King Holiday to serve their neighbors and communities.

The MLK Day of Service is a part of United We Serve, the President's national call to service initiative. It calls for Americans from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to our most pressing national problems.

If you are here, you may be interested and eager to design a project but looking for tips on how to get started. In general, there are five key components to constructing an effective, memorable project or event:

You may have lived in this same spot your whole life or still have boxes you need to unpack. Regardless, it's time to go out and look again at the place where you live.

You can do great things on the spur of the moment. But you can only make a lasting impact if you plan, prepare and promote.

Planning is great, but doing is even better! It's time to take that dream of community change and turn it into action.

You did it! But, wait, there's still more. No matter how wonderful your team may be, how significant your impact has been so far, how great your work is, the needs of your community cannot be met in a day.

Make It Last

We know you might not like to brag, but please do! Let your friends and neighbors know what you accomplished.
