Key Messages

"Service Advances Economic Opportunity"
  • Dr. King worked for increased opportunity for all Americans. In this time of economic challenge for the nation, Dr. King's vision of service and volunteering are more critical than ever. We need Americans to serve and strengthen their own and each other's economic security. Service is a powerful way for citizens, nonprofits, the private sector and government to work together to meet critical needs and advance King's dream of opportunity for all. That's why [organization] is celebrating the MLK Day of Service by [activity description.]
  • The best way to honor Dr. King is through service and volunteering in our communities. Dr. King devoted his life to advancing equality, social justice, and economic opportunity for all. He challenged us to build a more perfect union and taught us that everyone has a role to play. Four decades later, we still have work to do to realize Dr. King's dream. The needs are great, many Americans are hurting, and government can't do it alone. We need citizens to help renew our nation and expand equality and opportunity for all.
  • The Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday is a National Day of Service, and a time to re-commit ourselves to serving each other and our communities. On MLK Day, Americans across the country will honor Dr. King by helping their neighbors and communities. Led by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the MLK Day of Service will include thousands of projects spread across all 50 states. As a CNCS (grantee or partner) we are proud to work with CNCS to honor Dr. King by creating opportunities to serve on MLK Day and throughout the year.
  • ASK: On the King Holiday, we are calling on all Americans to take action to help others and make an ongoing commitment to serve throughout the year. President Obama, as part of his United We Serve initiative, is calling on all Americans to help their neighbors and communities on the King Holiday and to make an ongoing commitment to serve throughout the year. By joining together in service, we can help realize King's dream and build America's new foundation.
