Sample Letter to PSA Director
December 2010
Dear PSA Director,
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the first observance of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday. More than 40 years after his death, Dr. King's examples can continue to guide us in addressing our nation's most critical issues. We can all contribute to strengthening our communities by serving in Dr. King's honor on the King Holiday and throughout the year. By making service part of our daily lives, we can help realize Dr. King's dream. Together, we can ensure that more young people graduate from high school; that Americans of all ages have healthier futures; consume less energy; support our military families and veterans; and that we increase employment, financial stability, and affordable housing for vulnerable individuals and families.
To help inspire more Americans to get involved, we have produced three PSAs featuring Dr. King's nephew Isacc Newton Ferris, Jr. in both national and localizable versions. The first, "What Are You Doing for Others?" takes its inspiration from Dr. King's belief that, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" The second, "Beloved Community," discusses how we can honor Dr. King's legacy and move our nation closer to the society he envisioned through community service. The final spot, "I Have a Dream," begins with an excerpt of Dr. King's famous speech, then articulates how everyone can help realize the dream by serving in their community on King Day and through the year.
Please take a few minutes to review the enclosed spots. By putting them into rotation, you can help us make the King Day of Service a DAY ON, as well as help local community groups fulfill their missions and expand their reach.
Thank you for the consideration.
